Now we shall proceed with the consideration of what, properly speaking, constitutes the primary object of these essays. However also here in addition to the above, in some kind of methodological introduction there will be more to say about the fact that the method of historical symptomatology may be understood, at least in general terms, only on the condition that the reader is clear about the basic principles of the general methodology of Rudolf Steiner’s Spiritual Science. Our consideration requires a certain preparation from the reader, necessary to him, in the first place, so that he will be able to relate to it without prejudice and not with a trivial mind. This is especially important in view of the extremely emotional relationship not only in Russia, but throughout the world to the question which we are here attempting to study from an anthroposophical point of view.

Consciousness and Civilization

from Macrocosm and Microcosm Vol.1 by G.A. Bondarev Introduction: Consciousness and Civilization

1. The meaning, the significance and the task of Anthroposophy in the world today reveal themselves to us with particular clarity when we attempt to understand in depth the outer and the inner nature of this world. We are referring to the world of culture and civilization which influence the human being in so varied and many-sided ways and which he himself is continually striving to change.

With our first step on the path to such knowledge we confront immediately the fundamental question of man’s being and his consciousness, which can be expressed as follows: Which influences which in a decisive and far-reaching way? – Is it the human being who is shaped by the totality of the factors of civilization and culture that surround him, or are these shaped by the human being?

Within the sphere of established views on life and the world there exist three answers to this question. One of them, the Marxist answer, says: The human being in his consciousness is the product of social conditions. The second answer is diametrically opposed to […]

The Events in Ukraine and Possible Future Scenarios – Essay 1: Historical Symptomatology

In these essays the reader will find a description of contemporary political events, finely intertwined with an exposition of a series of principles of the methodology of Rudolf Steiner’s Spiritual Science; throughout this the latter significantly predominates over the former. Within the reader seeking after the sensational this should induce impenetrable boredom. And this only gladdens us, seeing as we are appealing to the thoughtful reader who is capable of bringing their consciousness soul into activity in the process of cognition, who strives to get down to the foundations of every phenomenon. These foundations are very often extraordinarily deep, and, as is said, “not of this world”. (It must also be said that the content of the essays is quite rich and it would be good not merely to read them, but to work with them.)

Historical symptomatology is one of the most significant divisions […]

About the Initiative

– Its Foundation and Purpose

The Initiative for Anthroposophy is a global association of individuals who have as their common purpose the cultivation of a truly esoteric Anthroposophy – a spiritual science and methodology capable of transcending the limits of knowledge imposed by the sense-bound intellect and attaining to genuine spiritual reality. The cognitive faculty of intuitive, ‘beholding’ thinking, with its inherent sevenfold methodology at the core of Rudolf Steiner’s epistemological works, as well as its extension via the anthroposophical methods of esoteric development, are the means by which this work is attained.

The Initiative for Anthroposophy seeks to cultivate this esotericism on a completely free and individual basis and is fundamentally independent of all affiliations, groups, societies, etc. As such, the Initiative is not a part or function of the Anthroposophical Society and furthermore, while it openly strives for collaboration with all serious anthroposophists, it does not recognize the Society’s leadership or the High School of Spiritual Science as having any formal esoteric authority in relation to the Spiritual Movement of Anthroposophy. This in no way precludes the associates of the Initiative from working within […]
